Peggy (Margaret) and Danny VanDevender opened Landscape Design of Goldsboro, Inc. on February 2, 1980. Just a few years later, they saw the need for quality plant material in the region and started the Nursery Division—right in their own backyard! By 1984, the Irrigation Division was added, and the company continued to grow through decades of planting, innovating, and educating.

In 2015, Mark Metzler joined the team as Landscape Division Manager, though Danny jokingly gave him the title “EP”—short for Exit Plan. That plan came to fruition in 2020, when Mark and his wife, Lauren, became the proud owners of both Landscape Design and Jericho Farms.

Today, the company produces more than 300 acres of container and B&B plant material and serves clients across North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, Mississippi, and beyond.
